The Spirit Compass points to the knowing already residing within you—your True North. This inner navigation system is your highest self calling you home—the part of you that knows your purpose, recognises your gifts and understands your deepest values. As a powerful tool, it helps you remember your authentic nature and gives voice to your empowering qualities.
I have created The Spirit Compass—a deck of 50 meticulously illustrated cards for you that draw upon myth, fairytale and esoteric traditions to help you access this inner guidance. Each card, poem and text serves as a portal for self-enquiry, contemplation and magical practice—creating a bridge between your conscious mind and the deeper wisdom of your soul.
Finding True North
Around the age of twelve, I made a discovery that would shape my entire life, though I didn’t know it then: my true heroes weren’t wearing football jerseys. While other children cheered for athletes, I found myself drawn to sensitive, creative souls who communicated beyond words.
I remember the moment clearly—withdrawing from soccer practice to sit alone on a bench, my coach’s voice calling me “antisocial” echoing in my ears. A few days later, I found myself in tears before practice, and knew this path wasn’t mine. What others saw as withdrawal, I recognised as the first step towards my authentic self. Ironically, I still excelled athletically—becoming a lone wolf of track & field and, a few years later, the fastest boy in Denmark.
Nature was always my sanctuary. In the woods, communication flowed effortlessly in ways it never did with people. There, amid the whispers of leaves and steadiness of ancient trees, I began yearning for something I couldn’t yet name—the wisdom that spiritual masters possessed: to understand my mind and remain centred regardless of circumstance.
Art became my first language of Spirit. I recognised that my artistic heroes communicated on a level beyond words—almost beyond mind itself. I devoted myself to creating, never stopping, as if each brushstroke or line drawn was a letter in a sacred alphabet I was slowly learning to read.
My spiritual interests deepened as sacred texts and dharma talks found their way to me. They resonated intuitively, yet I remained acutely aware of the gap between intellectual understanding and embodied wisdom. The teachings were maps, but I hadn’t yet made the journey.
It wasn’t until my thirties, in the crucible of profound personal crisis, that breakthrough came. Not a gentle dawn but as brutal lightning—illuminating everything at once. Through this initiation, The True North, Spirit Compass began to take shape. What I initially saw as an artistic project revealed itself as the vehicle for my spiritual integration—a way to realise and stay attuned to my soul’s direction.
These cards were born from that integration—each one a signpost on the path I walked from that solitary bench to the present moment of profound connection. They represent the language I’ve been developing since childhood—a passage between the seen and unseen, the spoken and felt.
My hope is that as you work with these cards, they help you recognise and honour your own True North—the unwavering inner compass that always points towards your authentic self, even when storms of life obscure the way.
Yours compassionately, Martin
